Speaker: Jillian Stansbury, ND This session reviews the growing research on the role that oxidative stress plays in mood disorders, including common anxiety and depressive state. Many herbs popular in the treatment of mental health issues may not only affect neurotransmitter profiles, they may also protect against oxidative stress in the central nervous system and contribute to the therapeutic effects. Clinicians may approach these exceedingly common disorders by addressing underlying inflammatory burdens in the body through diet, digestive and liver support, and possible nutritional supplementation while ensuring that powerful antioxidant herbs are included in all herbal formulas for best therapeutic effects.
