Speaker: Jill Stansbury. This presentation describes three main types of cellular receptors: cell membrane receptors (such as insulin receptors), glycoprotein receptors (which receive the glycoprotein hormones LH, FSH, HCG and TSH), and nuclear receptors (protein-based structures on the inside of cells, such as those for steroids, thyroxine and vitamins D and A, which interact with nuclear receptors and affect gene expression within the cell nucleus). Discussion includes the many ways in which cellular receptors affect the body's hormones, and the plants which can modulate these hormonal actions.
