Joe Hollis passed away in November of 2023. He was a true inspiration, living off the grid in his mountain home near Asheville for 50 years, educating thousands of students in growing medicinals, both native and from around the globe. It is impossible to put into words the impact Joe had on so many of us, with his quiet way and wonderful sense of humor--a wise man of immeasurable depth. A recent video from last year says it better than we ever could! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LEoW81mUXU
Letter to Joe sent in October, 2023:
Dear Joe from Linnea Wardwell and the whole Medicines from the Earth family,
Your Friday garden class, your plant display and your quiet wisdom and amazing knowledge will be missed at the symposium this year! You've been a part of this event since we can remember, bringing inspiration to thousands of students over the years. So we want to say "thank you" for being part of our lives for so long, and for letting us know with such grace, wisdom and humor that the next stage was coming soon.
No one can replace you, but many many people who came in contact with you are carrying your legacy forward in so many different ways. Bon voyage Joe and may light surround you now that you are home.
Love from Linnea and all of us.
