The key to this paradigm is an increased health span of individuals by improving the reserves in their functional capability. This model challenges deterministic genetics and is the foundation of the growing term ‘resilience.’ Understanding this model can aid practitioners in identifying practical therapies which increase resilience against age and disease-related changes and provide a long-term perspective for healthcare that is currently lacking.
