Speaker: Kenneth Proefrock. In this talk, we begin with a broad discussion of the types of seizure disorders, presumed causes for the onset and development, as well as expected progression for these conditions. We then discuss therapeutic interventions, beginning with allopathic agents and rationale, discussing weaning strategies, ethical medico-legal concerns, and botanical/nutraceutical agents that are helpful in the process. Botanical and nutraceutical agents discussed include Albizzia, Glycyrrhiza, Scutellaria, Rauwolfia, Bacopa, Convolvulus, Schisandra, glycine, taurine, B12 and folate analogs, piracetam, pramiracetam, oxyracetam, aniracetam, idebenone, sulbutiamine, and phenylbutyrate.
