Speaker: Mary Bove. This comprehensive two part lecture begins with an explanation of the purposes and processes of inflammation. The pathways of acute and chronic inflammation are compared and contrasted. Immune reactions in chronic inflammation are explained as a cycle of hypersensitivity, and conditions associated with hypersensitivity are listed, including Crohn's disease, celiac disease, hepatitis C, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, Grave's disease and many others. Humoral immune reactions are also described and associated conditions listed, including allergies, asthma, food sensitivity, scleroderma and sinusitis. Botanical and other therapies include essential fatty acids, and a comprehensive materia medica which includes herbs for inflammation of the skin, mouth, genitourinary tract, rheumatologic conditions and topical anti-inflammatories.
